and Epic Games stance on Linux gaming is known
Ported… into… Fortnite? I don’t understand what that means. Like portint Sonic into Mario it just, what
Prolly a new Fortnite game mode and cutting off the original games?
Porting a game into another game isn’t a thing. There’s not even a term for what this sounds like other than “dumb fuck bullshit”
I mean Fortnite is more a game engine than a game itself. It’s far more comparable to Roblox than anything else
I don’t understand, this happened years ago. Both Rocket League and Fall Guys originally came out on Steam, but disappeared from the Steam Store and became Epic Games exclusives. If you still own a Steam copy though, you can still play it.
Is this saying that the game will be unplayable without an Epic Games authentication or something? It’s not like the Steam versions are getting updates anymore, so they should still be playable with other Steam members. Unless the publishers are pushing an update to the Steam version as well.
EDIT: Upon rereading, I see these games are being ported into another game. Does this affect Steam users at all, since Fortnite is an Epic Games exclusive?
I won’t touch Epic Games, so this doesn’t seem to have any effect on me.
RL on steam is getting updates but only for the windows client. The Linux & mac client is an old version that only works offline. I found this out the other day when I installed rocket league on steam to try out since I haven’t played it in a long time
You can play online with Proton though (as of the last time I played at least)
I play RL through Steam, it’s still getting all of the updates.
Tim Sweeney is a bitch.
As the guy that founded the Rocket League Discord server ive always been incredibly saddened by what happened after Epic bought Psyonix.
Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior; open source games?
’Open source‘ as in software freedom: licenses for code and media that allow modifications and redistribution.
The idea of porting existing games into Fortnite is probably the worst thing I’ve heard of since I learned about CGNAT
Reminds me of the 00s when every tabletop game got ported to the d20 system (so, ported to be d&d compatible, kinda). It’s a sign of the times when a monopoly starts absorbing everything else. Magic The Gathering just had a massively successful Final Fantasy set this past summer despite there being a full separate Final Fantasy trading card game.
Strongly doubt that these games will be entirely unplayable outside of Fortnite. Will eat hat if wrong.

RIP in peace Rocket League.
How can leakers confirm anything? Some fourth-party leaks confirmed that third-party leaks were legit? If I was going to believe “leaks” without material proof, I’d have started with the original, third-party.
I’m confused, what does that mean ? Will a rocket league -likz “mini game” be available in Fortnite, like some sort of crossover ? Will Fortnite have multiple main games like LoL has TFT and Clash Royale has Merge Tactics ? Or will Fortnite just become a game launcher ??
Fortnite already has a game mode in it called “rocket racing” which is a pretty competant track racing game.
I’m guessing it’ll be like their other game modes where they basically port it to the specific version of Unreal Engine that Fortnite uses and build it in as a gamemode. There’s actually already some clones of Fall Guys and Rocket League in Fortnite but it’s still more a case of “playing $realGame but worse” due to limitations of the exposed engine features
I’ve got a couple thousand hours in Rocket League over the years but Epic has successfully made it so insufferable that I haven’t played it in about a year. Such a shame.
Stop killing games? What about stop fucking up games?
We seriously need to have a long conversation about what constitutes a refund on a game. I got several thousand hours of good times out of this game but the game that I paid for is no longer available.
The thing is, you never paid for a “game” in the first place. You paid for a license with a whole boatload of conditions.
The thing that needs to be fixed is not refunds, but what “buying” something digital means in the first place.
I didn’t say I purchased a game, I said I paid for a game. Whether that’s a “purchase” or a “license” is irrelevant to the fact that I can’t even play the game I “licensed” either.
Hmm, your original response pre-edit was a lot nicer.
I didn’t say I purchased a game, I said I paid for a game.
I also didn’t use the word purchase. You said “paid for a game”, I quoted you as saying you “paid for a game”.
Why are you pretending I misquoted you?
Because the difference seemed to be what your point was. If it wasn’t, I have no idea what it was. I paid for a license for a game. Thus I paid for a game.
That was my point – I was building off of what you said…
I paid for a license for a game. Thus I paid for a game.
This is exactly the problem. This should be true, but it isn’t in most cases.
Store’s like GOG get much closer by giving you a DRM free copy. But some would say that even then, if you aren’t allowed to modify and distribute that, you don’t really own the game either.
Okay so if I didn’t pay for a license for a game, what did I pay for?
They have altered the license. Pray they do not alter it further.
It’s a wish list of what companies hope they can enforce. In the EU Windows licenses are transferable, for example.
One day a judge can say you actually paid for a Game.
Shut the fuck up with your pedantic points. We are broadly talking about having fun with a game. Who the fuck cares if I don’t own it after 10 years? People mature, fads fade, and games get stale. Do I like it? No. But I am not going to derail all other conversations to make it about the point I am determined to shove into every around me. Fuck off.
Somebody needs a hug.
At what point do we as consumers stop clicking “Accept” on 200 page agreements?
As soon as we stop needing those services. Most of the time it’s:
- These words make no sense to normal people
- It would take hours to read.
- Not using the product is not a choice anyway.
Am I out for the loop? What does this mean to port games to another game?
Is fortnite like a platform now rather than just the battle royale game?
Yeah basically new game modes. Rocket Racing is an arcade racer, Fortnite Festival is a rock band like rhythm game, both are entirely independent from battle royale but still integrated into fortnite eco system with skins and characters going between them. This is the metaverse vision that Sweeney never stops talking about coming to fruition.
So we’re heading into the shitty Ready Player One dystopian timeline but it’s gonna be in Fortnite?
KMN
This is on par with paying a subscription for heated seats in your car. These ideas are so unthinkable for normal people that I don’t even know what to say.
Epic/Tim Sweeney can only do one thing really well: crying to the public.
Fuck Epic. Don’t care if they merge all of their games into one shitty game. Fall Guys was cool before Epic bought it, same thing with Rocket League. Now I don’t care about either game.
They want to be on iOS so bad with their game and store so they can farm credit cards of children’s parents, yet they don’t care about Linux at best, or are hostile against it at worst.
Epic/Tim Sweeney can only do one thing really well: crying to the public.
in the Unreal 3 era, almost every game was running on the unreal engine, and no one gave a fuck about the ID tech of the day (follow up to quake 3 engine)
Aren’t both the entire COD lineage and the Source engine based around the quake 3 engine, they never used Unreal?
When I remember I played native Linux version of Rocket League… 😿
It’s the only reason I bought that pile of shit. Them dropping support and then selling out to Epic left a sour taste.
on that note, but at a bit of a tanget: apparently SuperTuxKart has football mode now
I haven’t checked it out yet, but it apparently came out in the fairly recent 1.5 patch - and it looks pretty similar, might scratch the same itch. Dunno how active the playerbase is.
Imagine supertuxcart overtaking rocket league. Ah well. One can dream.
It’s still fun… but it also really makes you realize how much Rocket League relies on fancy graphics/etc.
Is that… Pepper as a playable character?
seems like it, it’s one of the mascots shown on their website: https://supertuxkart.net/Discover
