This seizure appears in response to a gas pipeline that Ukraine destroyed during the war.

The price shock from the Iran War is driving people to do desperate things in order to stay in power. You can get mad at Orban for being a POS. But he’s not the prime mover here. This is all downwind of Israel/US closing the Straight of Hormuz.

Lol Russia destroying a pipeline in Ukraine doesn’t make Ukraine responsible for their shit. Orban is a fucking russian asset, and noone believes in anything his compromised ass spouts.

He’s more bound up in American geopolitics. But then Americans keep smelling shit, then blaming foreigners for the load in their pants.

Whatever his interaction is with American politics, I dont think you can blame everything Orban does on Americans. And would it surprise you to know that every fellow American I know hates and mistrusts their government? To be fair, all of the people I spend energy associating with are strongly progressive.

Sure. He’s got a huge network of domestic supporters who are along for the ride.

Every fellow American I know hates and mistrusts their government? To be fair, all of the people I spend energy associating with are strongly progressive.

Will you distrust the government when it flips back to Dem control?

Obama currently has a 90% approval among liberals. It doesn’t seem like they’ve learned anything.

The dems who spend their entire existence kicking progressives in the face? those dems? I fucking hate them. I hate the republicans 2% more, but I still despise centrist dems and dont trust them as far as I could throw them. You just have to look at Joe Bidens history in congress to see what a weasel shit he always has been, and he is the patron saint of centrists.

As for Obama, I wanted so much more out of him. His folksy shtick worked for me for a long time, but now he seems like a retired salesman.

Orban is a fucking FSB puppet

He came up through US anti-communist front groups and has turned his country out to Silicon Valley goons and evangelical reactionaries.

So had Putin, at least during the War on Terror era.

They’ve been peas in a pod under every Republican administration since Bush 41. At best, you could describe them as Rogue Assets, assuming you ignored how often they work to benefit American industry.

If EU had a federal police, Orban would be arrested.
I seriously hope the Hungarian votes Orban out in the upcoming election, and when that is done, that Orban will face criminal charges.

They would be shot to death by Hungary’s military. Or any other member state’s where applicable. The EU is not a (federal) state and there is no popular support for becoming one.

Orban might be a piece of shit but that does not justify making the EU a state and forcibly taking sovereignty away from members.

EU is built on naive idealism. The charter does not have provisions for how to kick someone out. Hungary would have to do a Brexit on their own, which of course they won’t.

You can suspend their rights. That would actually be the perfect solution. They stay in the common market so EU’s economy would not be impacted in any way. You just don’t let them vote. Sanctioning the shit out of them would be even easier. Suspending rights has to be unanimous but I’m not sure who would object it. Slovakia maybe? It’s hard to believe EU would not be able to push this through if they really wanted. Anyway, can’t or don’t want to is equally pathetic here.

I hope the population vote him out, and turn more pro EU.
If they reelect Orban though, then I completely agree with you. There’s a limit to how many chances they should have.

The EU isn’t a federation, not as of 2026.

I do kind of hope that someone lends the funds to cover it, though, and that Orbán loses next month and Hungary subsequently hands it back.

From looking at how it takes away self determination in USA, I hope we never get federal police in EU.
But the lack of ability to handle a rogue state like Hungary is a problem.

We have federal police here in Australia. They don’t have to be bad. It can be useful when criminals travel across borders - all states have their own police force and jurisdiction ends at the border. Mostly our criminals are dealt with by state police but sometimes the AFP get involved where necessary.

With as toxic as Orban (Hungarian Leadership) is to Ukraine, it surprises me that Urkaine would take the risk of transporting this valuable cargo through Hungary or Slovakia when bound for Astria. It might be a longer drive, but the path through Poland and Czechia may be preferred going forward.
