Second article on the deal: https://www.mediaite.com/media/news/trump-greenland-deals-reportedly-includes-u-s-sovereignty-over-small-pockets-of-territory/

NATO released a statement on Wednesday shortly after President Donald Trump announced he and NATO Secretary Secretary General Mark Rutte had “formed’ a “framework” of a deal on Greenland. The NATO statement came amid new reporting from the New York Times that deal may include the U.S. being given “sovereignty over small pockets” of land in Greenland.

I think what Trump likes to do is bluster and bloviate and threaten things in order to get a “deal” without ever actually intending to do anything.

But then sometimes the opposing side fights back and he puts his tail between his legs and moves on to the next target.

I’m guessing NATO said some things that made him retreat. Like we won’t buy anything American anymore and your MIC collapses and we will sell of a load of bonds etc. Carney did this last year, just hovers on the button and see the orange turds reaction.

Yeah. He did the same thing with NAFTA. Then 5 years later he was all like, “What kind of idiot made this fuckin’ deal?”

    You can’t negotiate with stupid.

Cue Trump, 2027 from in his hospice bed:

“This was the worst deal, very stupid people made this deal. I call it the Biden Greenland Deal. Everyone’s saying it. It’s unbelievable.”

      cough cough pooping noises

Well, yes and no. I fear this step opens the doors for furure claims on more land there. Not saying it will be Trump, but eventually someone might start claiming more land there, because “they maintain it”, “they have military there” and “they already own parts” of the island anyway. Europe is letting US gain a foothold in Greenland. And once they get a piece, they will never let go. It’s always the case for imperialism and neofascism - especially the type that is on the rise in the US

Oh thank f–k. I don’t think I could have handled there being a war with the US over Greenland.

Now all I have to worry about is the Online “Safety” Act and the rise of authoritarianism and the far right in my country!

“Forever. be forever” Trump said about the deal. “That’s better than the Obama deal with the famous Iran nuclear deal, with a nine-year deal. No, this is forever. This is long-term.”

What an asshole. Blows up a significant measure in limiting the spread of nukes, then acts like it fell apart on its own.

“We have the concept of a deal.”

I can’t believe he actually said it. I was going to post that phrase exactly just to make fun of his “concept of a plan” statement. This man is such a pathetic joke.

Isn’t Rutte the worm that keeps brownnosing him? Does he even have the authority to unilaterally give away “pockets” of another country?

It’s a great thing, great thing, very odd, some people, a couple of people, eating with spoons, or eating the spoons, I don’t know, could be forks, maybe, could be either, eating, but a lot of people say it, spoons, could be forks, knives, sometimes, very sharp, very sharp knives sometimes, eating soup with a fork, you can’t do that, you can’t, I tell them, where would we put our shoes, they don’t listen, we have the best shoes, such great shoes, so then they say we should pay for the shoes, horrible people, nasty people, what does that mean, fork, it’s a new word they invented, fork! We call it a spoon, shoes, man, burger, what is that. I don’t know.

Sir. They said. Sir. You can’t negotiate a deal with Greenland, Sir. That’s what they said. I said Joe Biden couldn’t do it. Crooked Hillary couldn’t do it. I said it’s in my genes. Very smart. My nuclear uncle did the MIT. Very smart. So I put the magnet in the water and it didn’t work anymore. They said, sir, no one has ever thought of that. But the crooked fake news won’t tell you anything about that. A lot of people are saying it.

I hope that isn’t actually the case because it would be egregious even for Rutte, a world champion in slobbering his orange Daddy’s knob.

It’s not. Trump is massively overstating the deal. They’re basically just giving him stuff he already has. And they’re doing it in a way that forces the US to do more work on Arctic defence. It’s kind of genius actually.

It’s probably right that Trump is overstating his win, but frankly any form of yielding to Trump is infuriating. If there is a deal that covers “the entire Arctic region” the details will be important. Countries in that region include Canada, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. One should not assume it’s a win for the Nato countries with more Trump regime forces in the region after the US has threatened invasion or annexation of two of them.

The thing is, the US already has agreements that would allow them to stage a military presence in Greenland almost double the entire country’s permanent population. So no, this isn’t allowing them any kind of expanded presence. They already had that option any time they wanted to exercise it. But Trump, despite all his bullshit claims, had no actual interest in a US military presence in the Arctic region.
