i often dream and overthink my past mistakes, some are even so stupid to the point i feel cringe. i know that its already done and nothing else i can do about it but i just cannot move on from it.
i even diagnosed with anxiety disorder, and i need medication just to sleep.
i am convinced that if i know to move on, my anxiety disorder should be cured by itself, but i still lost the fight. any suggestion how you guys deal with it?
Figure out what I did wrong, apologize if necessary, figure out how to prevent making the same mistake in the future, and move on. You can’t change the past, all you can do is try to atone and avoid making the same mistake again.
Accept the mistake instead of judging it. Take piece of paper and write down the mistake you made and what you feel about it and what next are you going to do to either improve or avoid that situation. Use the pen and paper to bring the thought out of the mind onto the paper. You might be tempted to use screen/typing but trust me use the pen/paper. Once you do that just destroy the paper.
Focus on present. Everybody makes mistakes. Do what you can now.
thats what i am trying to do but still fail to do so, else i dont have to deal with my anxiety disorder
I can so relate. The mistakes. The regrets. The guilt. The anxiety. The sleep disorders. I’ve got it all in spades.
I don’t know what to tell you? I’m working on it myself. Sometimes I think of people who stepped in and helped me through difficult times in my life, and then I try to pay it forward even in small ways to other people I meet who are themselves in a bad place. I find this therapeutic.
I suppose on the bright side, my past has made me a humble person who is not quick to judge others. But there’s a fragility there too, and I fear for how I would cope with whatever new challenges await. These are rather uncertain times.
Maybe you can take some comfort in knowing you’re not the only one in this funk? I think you’ve actually made me feel better about it a little bit. Anyway, best of luck to you that you find your way.
yes i know i am not alone, but still the thoughts of having those mistakes and burden is really exhausting.
I get hung up on the occasional thing, I don’t have pervasive anxiety, but when that thing crosses my mind I would reflexively say a phrase to myself that is… very unhealthy. Once this mental tic gets established it makes the thing that was stuck get more ingrained so if I say the tic in my head I will just immediately start repeating “love yourself” over and over until the impulse to say the other thing has passed, eventually I’ll feel the impulse with out saying the tic and just start saying “love yourself” again and again until the impulse passes, after that it slowly fades out. I know it’s corny but it helps me when I find my mind reflexively responding to a memory with intense hostility
i think thats part of my problem, i dont really like myself tbh, i done lot of mistakes to the point its hard to love yourself.
It’s possible to bury old mistakes in a pile of new experiences, but you have to allow yourself to have those experiences
i done lot of stuff until now, but i still remember those mistakes i did decades ago.
Forgiveness for yourself very powerful.
When I needed to be forgiven and I couldn’t reach that person this practice helped me a lot ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGd1F6QoHsw) Of course, mindfulness practices are very useful too. Best of luck.Remember how forgiving you are of others and apply that to yourself
thats the problem, i am having hard time forgive others, i even still cannot forgive the one that bullied me decades ago
You don’t.
It’s okay to remember your past mistakes and regrets since they help you make better decisions in the future
yes it did make better decision but if it makes me having anxiety disorder, i prefer to forget it.
You shouldn’t though. Otherwise how would you learn? Looking back you didn’t know how to act at the time, so try to reframe it
yeah i think you are right, although i prefer learn it from other people, i just dont want more troubles
What works is planning. Plan what you’d do, if the situation were to arise again. Once you have a plan, your mind will stop bugging you. Works for me!
unfortunately lot of stuff happens even with careful planning, its like destined to be doomed. learned from experiences.
How often do you lay awake thinking of other peoples mistakes?
My point is, everyone else is too busy thinking about their own top ten to worry about yours, so you are basically the only one keeping that moment alive. Once you can get far enough away from the situation to realize that in the grand scheme nobody cares, you’ll be able to forgive yourself a bit easier (in my experience)
unfortunately some of mistakes has lasting effects to society, as example you done a mistakes that ended up destroyed trust of your career or relationship, your reputation hurts everytime you gonna start over.
people already label you as bad person due to your past mistakes.
You must run in some very tight circles if you’re getting judged by people you haven’t met based on things you did professionally or while in a relationship. That, or you did something really fucked up I guess
i can say tight circles, as example HR will do background check for their employees and your future relationship will also do that as well.
How often do you lay awake thinking of other peoples mistakes?
It’s hard to remember other people’s past mistakes. This goes to show that YOU are the only one fucking up. The rest of us are lying awake thinking about what a disaster YOU are.
people may cross you bad, so it happens eventually.
I stay high to keep my long term memory at bay. Unfortunately I’m still covered in scars which makes it harder…
what happens to you? having scars sucks, i do have it too and it looks ugly
❤️
personally i refuse to, as soon as i fuck up i berate myself for everything until i want to throw myself into a meat grinder
edit: not recommending anyone else do this, this is my specific success plan only and nobody else should use it
yeah i dont think i can do that, i prefer playing safe.
well it’s just my method fod myself only, i don’t want anyone else to do it cause it would hurt them
please stay safe
brute force new mistakes
You can never change the past, but you can change the future.
Your mistakes are going to continue, in fact they will probably get bigger. I’ll be vulnerable, I fucked up majorly and was let go from a previous job. It was a stupid fuckup, I should have caught it earlier, and it caused real money to be lost by the company and I let down my team. That guilt and embarrassment will stick with me for a long time.
However, I can’t let it stop me. It paralyzed me for a bit, I lost my confidence and stopped wanting to try at my position, but then one day I just started thinking about it. What did I actually do wrong, where did I go wrong, how did I let people down, and I decided I wanted to do my best to avoid that. So now at a new job I remember that incident, and I call out things earlier, I’m a bit less cocky, I do several little things that I just had to learn the hard way I guess.
The long point of my anecdote I guess is that those feelings never really go away, you’ll always be laying there at night and thinking about them. Growing though is acknowledging them, not trying to hide from them, and figuring out how you want to better yourself going forward.

thats amazing comeback, and i am glad that you able to do better at new job
