The safety of civilians in the region. You don’t have to pick a side. We can simultaneously acknowledge that the Iranian and the US regimes are fucked up.
why? all nations are evil. that’s a given. trump’s run to be another hitler has involved partnership with genocide and kidnapping and invasion of multiple nations.
he’s clearly the bigger evil here.
iran is a piece of shit but they’re not a worldwide imperialist terrorist organization actively invading other nations.
all nations are evil. but the one in which I am currently stuck I am allowed, at least currently, to recognize is doing harm to the world the likes of which has never before been seen.
Sure, but that doesn’t mean we have to choose one to support. Saying the IRGC is evil doesn’t imply support for the US invasion, and saying the US invasion is evil doesn’t imply support for the IRGC.
It’s like sanity has gone out there window. Let’s not forget that not supporting either side is always an option.
I wasn’t trying to say you in particular are choosing a side. Just venting about how on lemmy in general, a lot of people overreact if I say anything even slightly critical of the Iranian regime.
Even before this US/Israeli invasion, on a post about iranian student protesters, people were accusing me of being a zionist because it expressed support for the Iranian students who were protesting…
Yes, the current regime in the US is deplorable. The regime in the Knesset is also deplorable. But the Iranian regime is deplorable too. Like, it’s entirely possible for all those things to be true, and they are…
This is just blame shifting, you could have voted for Kamala, you voted for Trump, this is not anyone elses fault, nor is it capitalisms which functions perfectly well in hundreds of countries
I was not the one who set up Fox News and right-wing radio as propaganda outlets.
I was not the one who chose to make the Republicans work with Evangelicals to push wedge issues.
I was not the one who bought up all the media outlets to push Republican propaganda.
But sure, put all the blame on me when I’ve done my part to vote, try and convince others to vote, protested some when I could which hasn’t been all that much. I even have a wikipedia page because of something I did in 2009 to try and help.
But keep on blaming me and not the fascists and not the oligarchs who actually orchestrated this thing if it makes you feel better about yourself.
Are you happy with yourself now for blaming me? Do you feel better?
even if they voted for harris she still would have lost. she did a piss poor job at her campaign. if the primary actually picked her instead of joe dropping she’d likely have done much better.
I kind of doubt that will be true. Don’t you think if our system actually worked trump would have been some how taken from presidency? Or at least something would be happening. Like anything real…
People to stand up and run as a politician against people like Trump and commit to putting him in jail
Have people vote for said person
As opposed to in Iran where you only have 1 option
Like it or die
There is nothing stopping America from being similar to NZ/Canada/France/Sweden or insert whatever idealist state you look up to with universal healthcare, gun control etc, you just need people to vote for it
Left Wing Americans are constantly saying that capitalism is the problem because they seem unable or unwilling to talk to their neighbours
The problem isn’t the system. The system exists only to help the people maintain the upper hand. It’s the people themselves. Trump is only a symptom of a problem with the people. In fact, even if he drops dead tomorrow, you’ll find a queue of a couple of dozen even worse psychopaths waiting to take his place.
It’s hard to see the problem when you’re part of the US society. But it’s evident from the outside. An average of more than one school shooting happens in the US per day. This isn’t even a news these days. But it’s unheard of and unbelievable in other nations. If anything similar happens, it would be news and discussion for a year. You don’t go to churches or malls or railway stations (there is such a thing) worrying if you’ll die of gunshots.
Political assassinations are a big deal elsewhere - even of a political opponent. You should have seen the US republicans celebrating the murder of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. So the left must be good, right? Of course, they were celebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The sudden disappearance of a human life is something most people can’t stomach. Yet, people were celebrating the gory videos!
Similar attitude with armies. There are no just wars. Wars always cause unjust and unimaginable suffering. Wars must be avoided. Of course that’s not an option sometimes. Then your aim must be to attain the objective as fast as possible and restore peace. But all wars are holy wars for Americans. They don’t even tolerate it when I suggest that even their military may be committing war crimes (that’s charitable, considering what’s reported). To them, their military is the righteous force that can do no evil!
This is part of a pattern of excess pride, often called the ‘American exceptionalism’. Americans also give little value to perspectives of people in other countries. Many behave as if the US is the entire world! Problems like the Trump-Epstein regime will continue to repeat until Americans start to introspect and self-criticize. It will happen until a big section of Americans open up their mind to the perspectives of others.
They’ve been crippled. Their ability to project artillery outside their borders is receding with every passing day. As soon as the US/Israel offer them a seat at the bargaining table, they’ll come rushing back just like they have every other time the US/Israel has pushed their shit in.
If you love getting rug-pulled, go ahead and root for Iran.
If you want to cheer for the team with the kind of blood-lust necessary to obliterate a civilization, you’d be better off cheering for the US and Israel.
The war just started. How do you even know what tricks they have up their sleeves? You think dropping big explosives from the air is the only form of warfare? How did that work out for you in Vietnam? This is the same hubris Putin demonstrated. Don’t jump the gun.
the US has quadrupled military hardware production. That extra juice is for Russia, Putin will be out of the Kremlin in 2 to 3 years. He does not have to like it.
Yeah. Killing little school girls is all you can claim as an achievement! After all, little school girls are the field of expertise of your supreme commander, aren’t they?
We killed a whole lot of school girls in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq as well. Didn’t get the same kind of coverage, because the executive branch (and the public) were more disciplined in messaging.
But I think a lot of warfare is, at the end of the day, a libidinal need to “mow the grass” as the genocidal IDF leadership put it. Kill your enemies. Kill their families. Kill their kids. Depopulate territory of opposition.
Do I think dropping big explosives from the air works toward that end? Absolutely.
I never thought of the US as a benevolent invasion force. I knew they massacred ordinary people. And clearly, you’re part of the problem here.
But I’m not talking about that. Despite all the bombs you drop, you fail to achieve anything in the end. Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq. Is there one invasion you can say you’re proud of? Perhaps psychopaths like you can, based entirely on the blood shed. But for human beings, you just keep sacrificing soldiers till you withdraw with your tail tucked behind you. You create powerful enemies who go on to cause even more damage to you. It’s your shortsightedness and simplistic thinking that defeats you in the end.
Meanwhile, your equating human lives to grass, is just lack of humanity. I just pity you. But don’t believe for a second that you’re immune to it. One day it will be someone else doing it to you.
Despite all the bombs you drop, you fail to achieve anything in the end.
Tell it to Raytheon stockholders. Hell, tell it to Facebook stockholders.
More importantly, tell it to every single Palestinian rendered homeless by the Nakba and the subsequent seventy years of genocidal policy. Israel exists in its current state because they slaughtered hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and took their homes, their farms, and cut off their access to Arab neighbors.
Meanwhile, your equating human lives to grass
Mowing the grass (Hebrew: כיסוח דשא) is a metaphor used to describe periodic Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip to manage the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The term was coined by Efraim Inbar and Eitan Shamir, two columnists for The Jerusalem Post and strategic studies researchers.
Naftali Bennett referred to the idea in a speech in 2018 when he said “מי שלא מכסח את הדשא, הדשא מכסח אותו” (‘He who does not mow the grass, the grass mows him’)
Conflicted on who I’m supporting here.
You don’t have to support anyone.
If you don’t pick a team you’re not in the game!
The only winning move is not to play
The safety of civilians in the region. You don’t have to pick a side. We can simultaneously acknowledge that the Iranian and the US regimes are fucked up.
Wow, I didn’t know sane takes were still allowed on the internet…
Yeah I want both governments to fall and both countries’ people to thrive and forge a better future
Solid choice.
Then the sinking of a battleship seems like a pretty safe strike. Roughly zero chance of collateral damage.
But high chance of retaliation, which is why cowards target civilians…
why? all nations are evil. that’s a given. trump’s run to be another hitler has involved partnership with genocide and kidnapping and invasion of multiple nations.
he’s clearly the bigger evil here.
iran is a piece of shit but they’re not a worldwide imperialist terrorist organization actively invading other nations.
But they have been supplying drones to a worldwide imperialist terrorist organization actively invading other nations…
We can say both sides are evil, it’s okay. Nuance is rare enough already as it is without needing to discourage it when we see it.
all nations are evil. but the one in which I am currently stuck I am allowed, at least currently, to recognize is doing harm to the world the likes of which has never before been seen.

i do not support any side. what gave that opinion? i am just currently reacting to how deplorable the side i am stuck under is behaving.
I wasn’t trying to say you in particular are choosing a side. Just venting about how on lemmy in general, a lot of people overreact if I say anything even slightly critical of the Iranian regime.

well you can simply vote out trump at your next election if you wish
you can’t vote out a dictatorship
the dictatorship is capitalism here in the US. it also can’t be voted out.
lol… all the best countries in the world have capitalism
…so do all the worst countries in the world. In fact, all the countries have it. That’s the problem.
the worst country in the world is north korea and it’s communist, so you could have it worse
Communist in name only
lol you wish
If they were communist in more than name, their proletariat wouldn’t be starving to death while their rulers get fat.
Not all countries have the power our oligarchs have. They’re trying everywhere, but they have succeeded in the US.
This is just blame shifting, you could have voted for Kamala, you voted for Trump, this is not anyone elses fault, nor is it capitalisms which functions perfectly well in hundreds of countries
And you could kick out Rupert Murdock, but you personally haven’t, so I guess that’s your fault.
sure, I guess I better start blaming capitalism for all my woes now
I was not the one who passed Citizens United.
I was not the one who set up Fox News and right-wing radio as propaganda outlets.
I was not the one who chose to make the Republicans work with Evangelicals to push wedge issues.
I was not the one who bought up all the media outlets to push Republican propaganda.

It could’ve been. But dumbfucks threw a tantrum over Harris.
This is on their heads. Never let it be forgotten.
While Harris would have been an objectively better president than trump, I don’t think voting for her would have voted out capitalism…
don’t forget: the ppl who voted 3rd party.
even if they voted for harris she still would have lost. she did a piss poor job at her campaign. if the primary actually picked her instead of joe dropping she’d likely have done much better.
I kind of doubt that will be true. Don’t you think if our system actually worked trump would have been some how taken from presidency? Or at least something would be happening. Like anything real…
Then you need 2 things:
People to stand up and run as a politician against people like Trump and commit to putting him in jail
Have people vote for said person

Iran loves to issue empty threats.
They’ve been crippled. Their ability to project artillery outside their borders is receding with every passing day. As soon as the US/Israel offer them a seat at the bargaining table, they’ll come rushing back just like they have every other time the US/Israel has pushed their shit in.

I see that you have more downvotes than upvotes. It shows you that people do not like what you say even if it is true.

You and the rest of the US national media.
Tell it to Raytheon stockholders. Hell, tell it to Facebook stockholders.
