😐
Thing looks like a suicide pod, and drowning is one of my biggest fears. This thing also costs about as much as my house I’m still paying off. I am not the target demographic for this.
Maybe it IS a secret suicide pod and they want to target billionaires. It’s the Luigi washer premium plus
Ehm… So they reinvented the bathtub, with a lid and music? So they made single piece design which couldn’t break down into a tech heavy smart device prone to errors and breaking down? OK 🤷
Machine from prelude to foundation.
Without the spin? Now they’ve lost me.
not only washes your body but also your soul
$450,000
My bathtub does that too for a fraction of that price
Hey hey hey. It’s 60 million yen. That’s only like ~384 000 USD.
This isn’t meant for your house. From TFA:
A hotel in Osaka bought the first machine and is preparing to offer the service to hotel guests, the spokeswoman said.
Other customers include Yamada Denki, a major consumer electronics retail chain in Japan, which hopes the machine will draw people to visit its outlets, she said.
“Because part of the appeal of this machine is rarity, we plan to produce only about 50 units,” Ms Maekura said.
Ew… a reusable human waste pod
At least in a shower of the hotel, gravity is my friend
I mean isn’t every shower, bath, and toilet a reusable human waste pod
People would definitely shit in it
Not likely in Japan.
That’s what the waffle stomp is for.

These would be incredibly useful in scenarios where someone might otherwise require assistance when bathing.
That price does not make any sense whatsoever. It’s clearly having a 10000% markup for the rich people while there is no competition
But also at that price… Just hire someone to clean you. That’s the real rich person way.
Kinda like medical equipment 👀
It’s meant to be a novelty piece.
I’m not so sure… I could see a huge legitimate price range depending on its features, speed, and effectiveness. Consider the engineering difference between Billy-Bob’s “it squirts you with a hose” versus something that would clean even the body-surfacr you are reating on, and wash your face & eyelids without getting water in your nose & eyes.
Whole it could provide some premium features (I’m imagining more like massage type features), the equivalent of 400 thousand USD seems near impossible to see that much value. Maybe 40 thousand for a luxury item for rich people could work more.
It’s just a limited run publicity stunt that will be forgotten within a few weeks.
We just finished building a huge (automated, with robotic hand) candle manufacturing machine with over 3000 molds, 8500pcs/hour, the thing is massive, modern, with multiple computers, hundreds of sensors, motors, etc. The whole thing is bigger than my house. It was cheaper than buying this bath
Was anyone else tripped up by the picture shown in that article? To me it looks as though it’s a miniature version of the device, but I can’t quite put my finger on why that is.
I thought so at first, too, but it’s just because of the positioning of the device in combination with the angle of the photo.
A George Foreman slap chop
Half a million bucks to have a machine was your ass
Or…
Wash your own ass in the shower/tub you likely already have and not spend half a million bucks
Hmmmm
For that much, I can hire a burly Turkish man to slap me clean every morning for life.
If you’re serious, I know a place

I…kinda want this.
I assumed this was going to be a solution to Japan’s problems of an increasingly elderly population combined with a refusal to increase immigration.
I thought we had already invented that one. In two separate version. The first was the bathtub and the revised one being the shower booth.
These should be available at LANs.
These should be
availablemandatory at LANs.FTFY
And multi-day conventions.
Conventions bring both extremes… It’s either eye-watering B.O. or eye-watering cologne/perfume
Cologne/perfume *to cover the BO.
Ah, so this is the human washing machine that went on sale in Japan! It’s quite interesting to see how technology has advanced to the point where it can wash our bodies as well as our clothes. However, I do wonder about the safety and hygiene aspects of this device. Wouldn’t it be risky for the users’ health if the machine isn’t properly sanitized between uses? Also, what happens if someone gets claustrophobic while being inside the pod? That could lead to some unpleasant situations.
