No it’s not. The title of the article is “Israel Quietly Backs New Gaza Militias Fighting Hamas” (emphasis by me). You might say that that’s a distinction without difference, but I think it matters on multiple counts:
- The term “Zionist” refers to people holding a certain set of beliefs. The group therefore contains more members than the government. Which Zionists are backing the group? The original headline answered the question, the new one does not.
- Using the term “Zionist” instead of “Israel” implies a motivation for the actions of the government not present in the original title. The new headline misrepresents the reporting it links to. We are talking about the Wall Street Journal here. Do you really think the would argue that the Israeli government funds Arab militias because of Zionism?

Yes, but is there any evidence that Moroccan Oil is an activist company? They were founded by an Israeli, but in Montreal, Canada and are headquartered in New York, USA. They don’t seem to have any direct ties to the Israeli military or government, because they are a haircare company. Companies usually care more about their bottom line than about their government’s agenda (as long as the two don’t collide)
I don’t see how this one’s involvement stops the EBU from kicking out Israel.

As the famous quote from Spider-Man goes: “with great power comes great responsibility.” Past WW2 the US acted as hegemon. They where the most powerful country and tried to use this responsibility on the global stage - at least to an extent. NATO, free access to US markets for other countries (though that also benefitted the US because it cemented the USD as reserve currency)
Now the government wants to keep the power but have none of the responsibility. It’s similar to their position on free speech.

I find the tendency on Lemmy to see a conspiracy in every law concerning.
Criticise the law for what it does (there is enough here for it) and be wary of potential abuse. But sometimes warm water is just warm water.
