This annual training is done for all Corp of Engineering groups for each base, timing is a bit unfortunate considering. This training is planned out months in advance to coordinate logistics.

That’s not what the article says:

The Fort Bragg exercises were the first time in more than 20 years that U.S. Army chaplains, and personnel dedicated to religious affairs in the military, received training in how to contribute to temporary gravedigging on the battlefield, the Army said.

Edit: I read what you said better, and these aren’t actually in conflict. Why was the army asking chaplains to do it? Terrifying.

That doesn’t contradict them. Your quote is clearly saying it’s happened before, but this is the first time Army chaplains have been involved. It’s a change of procedure, but not a new activity.

Ah, ok. Well why they would ask chaplains to participate (they’re not taking over) is that they’re basically the ones in charge of burials and religious ceremonies. It makes sense to have them involved to make sure it’s all being done as humanely as possible.

Chaplins are officers, if an officer can dodge going into the field and get dirty they will.

              /s

To be fair Chaplins are pretty busy, lots consoling, helping families, then worship prep each week.

This is just a full run thru, I bet we see this with all the brigades following. Some General/Coronel wants to see it done completely.

Tbh, I was picturing the chaplains digging, but overseeing and advising makes wayyyy more sense. Why have they never participated before?

They’ve probably done their training separately. You can learn how to give funeral rites in a classroom.

Uh, idk. There is a world where a countries armed forces determining a safe procedure to deal with an extremely large mass casualty event is proper planning with chaplains. It’s a really bad look though for the US.

How does adding chaplains to the loop make things worse? That’s the thing that changed here. The mass grave training was already being done.

Also, as much as it sucks, it’s probably good to train this if you want people to receive “proper” burials. It’s not training expecting it will happen, but training in case it happens. It’s similar to all service members training to fight and shoot, even though the majority will never fire their rifle off the range. Preparation is good so if you need it you can do it without totally fucking things up.

If every base and branch was doing this then I would start shitting peach pits. This is just one base and one engineer brigade. There are many in the US Army. Then you add in the National Guard, it gets bigger just on the Army side of the house.

        Standard training, business as usual.

Some officer decided they needed to write a new SOP and this sounded good. Might even get a promotion for it.

            BINGO!

Sitting back in his air conditioned office thinking “How can I get my full bird??? EUREKA! I’ll piss off other officers by making them be part of the annual mass grave training!”

And the rest is history and fodder for the tin foil hat crowd.

Every year the army gets ready to impose martial law. No reason is given, but we are assured it is about to go down by that one guy who saw a convoy of vehicles.

And God forbid you live in states like Virginia. We start seeing more FA/18, Osprey, etc training runs over the Shenandoah Valley and you swear its “Boys, grab your rifles and your boots. We’re going to war!”

Then you check and its a carrier getting ready to set sail and its easier to do test runs when the parts are on base vs in the Med.

And the NG clogging up RT81 running convoy.

      Jade Helm 2026! Woo!

Something tells me there’s a PAO somewhere with a very big headache right now.

I was going to bring up Jade Helm! It also seems like any Robin Sage event ends up by accident coinciding w/ a major geo-political event and the tin foil hats come out in force.

People need to understand, NOTHING happens fast in the US government unless its reactionary. Large scale training or joint training events take months and months to plan.

Yeah I would not want to be the PAO @ Ft Bragg right now!
