Thoughts about the Steam Frame, Factorio’s native ARM64 port, and how it integrates into the Steam Frame and Linux ecosystem. Written by Raiguard and Sanqui, the developers who made Factorio’s Linux-native build happen.
Note: this isn’t about a VR implementation, it’s just the 2D version ported to ARM. If you play it on Steam Frame, it still just projects onto a virtual 2D screen, it just runs natively without lepton. You can now run the game much faster on a raspberry pi as well.
It would be cool if they managed to add some depth effect to the game when played in VR. IIRC their sprites are rendered from 3D models, so it could be possible to also render depth maps, which can then be used to produce a stereoscopic view.
I finally can go anywhere and play Factorio on a giant screen without seeing anyone around me. Such a dream!
TBH I’ve been a little burned out on Factorio. I’m a completionist so when they ship an expansion at full price of the game and the 100% achievements now REQUIRES you buy the expansion, it feels like an insult to me.
That sounds like a steam problem, not a factorio problem.
Factorio is still one of the games where I have the most hours put into Steam, and after the crack-like obsession finally wore off I haven’t really looked at it since. I suppose the DLC could be fun, but I already went to space thanks to mods. Will always be a favorite for me!
I did like how PlayStation segregated and categorized the dlc into their own sections.
