Hi all,
We’re looking to get off Rackspace’s email as the Spam filtering is pure garbage. We’re going to avoid the Googles and MS’s of the world, and I’m wondering if this community has suggestions for mail providers that run FOSS services (and are public about that via support), and/or are privacy focused. Note: Proton is a no-go due to having to run an IMAP middle-man service.

Mailbox.org is the best!
Mailbox.org is another candidate worth looking into.
They are very generous with aliases too: 25 mailbox aliases, 50 custom domain aliases. Compare to Proton, which allows only 10 non-revocable aliases for their domains and custom domains combined.
This is on my eval list, though I’m thinking Runbox is above it due to the unlimited aliases/etc. I also like their sub-account pricing structure.
Check Posteo. Working great for me since I left gmail.
Posteo is also my choice. It’s now not only my main E-Mail adress, but also my sync for calendar and adressbook. When i decided not to use Google any more several years ago i considered hosting my own server or use a service. I ended up with Posteo and so far never regret it. Paying 1€/month is a better deal for me than maintaining my own server, as they use their own server which are located in Germany and seem to be really trustworthy.

Never heard of them. But their website says “try ad-free”. That implies that they display ads after the trial!? If that’s the case, they can’t be trusted.
No, they want to emphasize that the trial is ad free. After the trial you need to pay, but it’s still ad free

I second this recommendation. I don’t use the Disroot app on my phone, but they also offer a bunch of other great apps beyond emails in case you are interested. You can check them on their website. They’re all FOSS and free to use. Most of them don’t even require an account.
Thank you for the suggestion, unfortunately as this is for business, this one probably won’t work for us.
They’re also a Dutch non-profit organization, and both their services and their infra are all developed/maintained in the open using exclusively open-source projects.
