Same. I’m downloading a car right now.
I rolled back. It was fairly easy and now the downloads work again.
A lot of the angst about the server requirements for Plex pass really have to stretch the truth to become a victim. It only affects you if you were using it for free, in which case 🤷, it was free, it’s hard to feel bad about it.
The only thing I’m disappointed in is the free mobile streaming comes at the same time they released the new broken app. When they get around to fixing the app I’ll be able to tell my friends they can now use the app. The server owner paying once is much better than every person paying for the app.
It’s inappropriate because you’re not allowed to review your own companies software, let alone do so without declaring as such.
If he was forthcoming in his review, it would have been to obvious that it’s a breach of the ToS. Workers are not permitted to review apps made by their own company.
This is 100% a shady review.
They are providing extra service. Using Plex on mobile is now free for everyone, which is a huge step forward. It’s not a bad trade off for server owners to require Plex pass for remote viewing (which is only necessary if you’re not using a VPN like tailscale for free remote viewing).
I don’t get why people are freaking out over a one off fee to unlock something that has running costs for Plex, which itself isn’t necessary if you just opt for a free VPN client like tailscale.
OP couldn’t comprehend an email, and when everyone tried to reassure them that nothing for them has changed they doubled down. The closest thing to justification I can figure is “all my clients are borderline illiterate as well and it upset them”.
How in the world could you be upset that a product you already paid for is not providing that specific feature for free anymore. They’ve even made the phone software free!
How many people with a folder full of media also know how to safety expose a home server to the internet? It would be less than 1%.
Meanwhile, you don’t need network engineer levels of knowledge to run Plex for remote access. You download the software, choose the folder, and send your friends a share link.
So, it doesn’t affect existing models, just the new ranges of NAS that will be released soon. And if you own an old one you can use it to format non supported drives and migrate to the newer models.
Pretty shit, but at least it’s not going to majorly affect existing set ups.
I wonder if Synology will realise how bad of a move this is and one day roll it back. This will kill their consumer level market share, do they have enough of an enterprise market for this to make up the difference?
What’s the ffxiv reference here?
Anubis is from Egyptian mythology.
I don’t think climate change will prevent reaching that number, but it will increase the suffering. If we don’t start reversing climate change I believe we will try to adapt to it until we reach the limit of our ability to adapt before we perish. If we are lucky, a small fraction of the species will survive long enough for something to be able to change, but I’m talking a really long time.
I’ve got a couple of 10TB HDDs. Is that enough?
What’s the file size on that?
It’s a great concept, but why is this article written like it’s ground breaking? It’s a low resolution, low frame rate, led matrix in a custom shape. It’s a literal hobby project.
Cell towers are not wifi, but I think I understand what you mean.
