Having met an ex-SAS guy a long time ago who was proud to have worked after as “private security” abroad in various African countries during civil wars…

I assume they’re all like this

Given the article we’re at an absolute minimum size of 3, and there’s probably more than two doing this

        Any evidence to the contrary?

The SAS have been involved in some pretty shitty things over the decades, I find it wholly unsurprising that more than just the guy I met become morality-devoid mercenaries after the job.

          1. The onus to prove something is on you. 2. All the ones not doing it? I’m sure there are way more than 3 SAS vets in the world.

You have a sample size of 3, and 2 of them you only know because they are doing something worthy of being on the news. I’m also not surprised the number of them like this is more than 0, but that doesn’t mean most or even a significant number of them - much less “all” which is what you said. A lot of vets are also very patriotic, and Russia has assassinated people in the UK and are enemies. So it also wouldn’t surprise me if quite a few of them joined the Ukrainian side when they were taking volunteers - a lot of vets did.

You guys are getting all frothy over a half serious line on the end of an internet comment.

Do you want me to prove I met a guy, relatively in passing, nearly two decades ago or just that I assume things?

I assume you’re gonna try and respond, if that helps clear up the latter, not really sure how I can do the former, as the guy is likely dead now even if I could contact him.

              🤦

I’m not saying you need to prove you met the guy, mate. No fucking one did. I’m saying that knowing 3 guys, 2 of whom are an inherent anomaly giving they show up on the news, is not enough for you to draw conclusions from. It’s that simple.

Also, insert the ‘jokes on them I’m not retarded’ meme here. You said all. Then you stood your ground but said “not surprised there’s more” while asking someone to prove something when you made a claim. Now you’re walking it back saying it was a half serious line while acting like we’re the ones who said something wrong.

It’s amazing how much people on lemmy like to talk about scientific accuracy, make fun of right wingers for being stupid and not understanding statistics, etc. But all that goes out the window when it’s convenient. We want to dunk on people from the military, so fuck all that now. 3 cases, of which two are more likely to be noticed because they were news worthy, prove everything. Ok. I’m not gonna try to reason anymore with people who just want to rant and complain about something.
