I hate Iran’s theocracy as much as the next guy, but he makes a very valid point that should also resonate in Europe, if European leaders have any sense of self-preservation.

Iran elects popular leader who wants oil revenue to benefit his people instead of foreign interests -> US installs the Shah who is unpopular but friendly to US oil interests -> Iranian revolution of 1979 installs the current regime.

And your solution to this is… more regime change? Shouldn’t the US have learned a lesson?

Maybe a more recent lesson would make more sense?

Iraq regime is unfriendly to the US - US takes out Saddam’s regime -> Rise of ISIS -> US has a huge mess to clean up now in both Iraq and Syria -> forever war continues.

At what point do we admit that US interventions probably aren’t a good idea?

As an American (assume you are as well, but you might not be), I know from context that this generally means the country, not every single individual.

And as a country, we really have put out boot down on a lot of countries’ necks.

So it’s really really not racist to point this out.

It’s like saying “Israel is genociding the Palestinians”. There are some Israelis who disagree with Israel’s actions. Same with anything Iranian leadership says. It’s the same for pretty much any country in the world.

America is Bad. Iran was one of the most free and socially liberal countries until the US, UK, and France started to tamper with their democracy. When they say America bad its 100% true. Can’t directly or indirectly kill millions of their people and say we’re anything different. Let me ask you something? Do you think people in Venezuela and Cuba think “America bad”? If so why?

As far as 1970’ autocratic dictatorships go, Iran was probably one of the most “liberal”. But it was still a brutal regime. The SAVAK tortured, imprisoned, disappeared and murdered countless opponents domestically and abroad, becoming one of the leading reasons of the Iranian revolution of '79. The fact that the Shah’s regime was replaced by an even worse and more repressive one doesn’t mean we can look at it through rose tinted glasses.

I don’t think anyone is saying that the Shah was a good ruler. He was NOT, and he was propped up by US, UK because he was friendly to their interests. That’s the whole problem that is the reason the current regime was put in place in 1979.

Prior to the Shah, Iranians had a better regime but it wasn’t friendly to US, UK interests so was overthrown by the US, UK.

The “lesson learned” should have been that meddling in regime change can result in a worse outcome. US, UK thought the democratically elected regime wasn’t friendly enough to them, they installed the Shah, then ended up instead with an even less friendly regime.

Now we see the Republicans didn’t learn that lesson, because their voters largely don’t know the history. So here we are again, tried to meddle in regime change and likely just made their regime stronger and even less friendly.

All wrong… The ones we ushered into power are not the current ones saying the US is bad. The ones in power now overthrew the people we put in power. The regime in power now is seen as liberaters and heros.

He’s saying that the US is responsible for the Ayatollahs being in power (even though that wasn’t the intent) because they installed the Shah who the people didn’t want the but was friendly to US interests.

So I think it’s accurate to say that the US unintentionally ushered the current regime into power by putting in an unpopular puppet dictator to replace an elected leader who was popular with his people (Mossadegh).

And fuck venezuela and cuba too. We need to hit North Korea next… china is in collapse so that problem will fix itself when the people stop burning factories and start burning ccp. It in the post, mark my words.
