Due to some recommendations I am using Bazzite.

I thought it was a bit of a locked down OS due to what I was used to. I realized that’s because of what it’s built on top of on? Like you should be using distrobox to boot up different terminals to install packages and stuff. It took me a little while to get used to it and I quite enjoy it. Although I suck getting wezterm to have a shortcut that will detect custom colours when booting into my specific container.

POP OS has been pretty good for me as well. Overall, quite happy with my Linux experience.

  • Thanks to this one comment alone I stayed up a few hours last night to switch to Bazzite.

I had a few oddities with Pop OS and I wanted to turn off the fans and do stuff. The fact that Bazzite had it all rolled in is impressive. The keyboard worked immediately. I don’t think I read the instructions well enough but I figured out I was supposed to use bazzite as the pw to get in.

This is what I think I was looking for, at least from what I see so far!

    Thanks so much!

  • hmm, I still think I want to use my laptop for media and gaming and general stuff … I’m leaving next week so I may try a safer OS in the mean time. I think when I get back I definitely want to delve deeper into Bazzite. I think I wanna see if Bazzite would be a good match for my friend. He was thinking about an XBOX Asus ROG Ally X and I was saying that it’s quite pricey if you’re not going to use the handheld component. He said he just wanted a console-like experience so he can just turn it on and play and that he has a Mac for his other stuff. I’m reading the Bazzite github repo and it says: “Directly boots to Game mode matching SteamOS’s behavior.” for the Home Theatre PCs which is what seems to match for him.

  • I don’t particularly enjoy the downvotes people get on here for dissenting opinions. I liked the old school Reddit mentality of “if it adds to the discussion”.

Any dissent = black and white judgement sometimes.

I was trying to say the US Dems aren’t the same as the Republicans. I did state I didn’t like them either and listed something Biden did that’s good. Someone accused me of defending genocide and a plethora of other things afterwards.

  • An apropos of that. I’m Chinese/Viet half-and-half and was born in the UK. I have friends in the UK that are half-Chinese and half-British (white/caucasian). I had no idea that there were so many “half-Chinese” specific groups online.

Also, I can’t remember but there was some business about having a Chinese dad was better than a Chinese mom (I could have them switched). However, it’s mainly boys/men with this problem and they’re having issues dating or with school and everything and blame it all on their Chinese parent. My friend tries to chime in to talk some sense into them but the self-victimization is really strong and he gets pushed out.

  • They display the product’s energy efficiency rating, on a scale from A to G, along with battery life, the number of charge cycles the battery is rated for, letter grades for durability and repairability, and any applicable IP rating for protection from dust and water.

It looks like individual scores for the battery and repairability. The battery score seems to be just charge cycles. Repairability would probably something similar to iFixit but we’ll have to see. I do like this though or at least the attempt of it.

Alongside the labels the EU is introducing “ecodesign requirements” imposing minimum standards on the same products. Those include protection from splashes of water (and dust particles larger than 1mm for phones), scratch and drop protection, batteries that retain at least 80 percent of their capacity after 800 charging cycles, and making “critical spare parts” available within 5-10 working days.
