Commenting on a Minnesota Star Tribune article, another Reddit user posted that Ross might be welcomed as a hero in Florida or Texas. John Doe responded by sharing that Ross had lived in Chaska, Minnesota; grew up in Indiana; and served in the Indiana National Guard — biographical details that were circulating widely at the time. “Hopefully he moves up to Stillwater State Penitentiary,” they wrote.

In another post, a Reddit user asked what they should write on an anti-ICE protest sign. John Doe suggested the lyrics to a song: “Urine speaks louder than words.” In a third instance, Doe wrote, “TSA sucks and we all know it.” According to the Reddit user’s attorneys, these were the most aggressive posts they could find.

Everytime I see shit like this, I immediately lose respect for the journalist writing the article. You can’t just write quotes and not provide any fact checking - especially when it’s so obviously false.

That’s one way to commit suicide, I guess.

Yeah their news articles try not to be as blatantly pure propaganda as their TV programming, but they still omit a lot of information to subtlety frame stories in their favor.

We like to shit on Tik Tok, but you’re right that their reach is absolutely massive. Recently when Democrats were writing op eds and taking out ads saying that troops should ignore illegal orders, a high ranking member of the military (I forget who) commented that the messaging was ineffective because troops almost universally get their “news” through Tik Tok.

I browse exclusively on my phone, so deleting reddit apps and installing Lemmy apps was the biggest step for me.

I primarily browsed All, so setting my default sorting to All Top 12 Hours was key.

Finally, I made a point to comment and post more. This is where Lemmy beats Reddit hands down in my opinion. You can comment on posts that are hours old on All and still have meaningful discussions. Trying that on Reddit is like screaming into the void.

Edit: I also forgot to mention that I upvote almost everything. If you made a post that I read and it’s not complete trash, you’re getting an upvote. Same with comments. I upvote almost every comment I read - especially ones in response to my posts or comments. I feel like it let’s people know they’re being seen.

Yeah I saw in the article that they covered it up and posted guards. Kind of ironic if they end up removing the section of wall and making a ton of money selling it.

Holy shit, this is the first time in Lemmy I’ve seen someone ask and obscure question and a person in a specialized profession answered. That used to happen on Reddit all the time, but I didn’t think Lemmy had a critical mass of users.
