I think it is more of a threat along the lines of “if you tax me more, I will play even dirtier to keep my wealth, lay off people in companies I am a major shareholder of etc and therefore economy will be worse”. And politicians know that many people will blame the government for any damage to the economy and they therefore bend the knee not to lose their seats. Everything really would be better if people understood who their real enemy is.

I don’t condone hamas leadership and terrorism but I totally understand people wanting to join hamas. When you are so powerless at the face of your livelihood being destroyed, your loved ones/children being torn into pieces by bombs or shot in the head while waiting in a food line, then you grasp at the nearest opportunity for revenge. Or perhaps it is not even revenge all the time but a very deep desire for next generations to not go through the same traumas that you did.
