It’s sad that all I can do as an Aussie is buy some real maple syrup. It also says a lot about what Canada gives to the world. There’s a damn good reason that Americans put the Canadian flag on their backpacks. We say here that New Zealand is to Australia what Canada is to America. They are our better, kinder sibling, the ones who didn’t join the war, the ons with more honour and integrity. Go Canada.
Fair call, but how will they get along with evangelical christians dying for the apocalypse?
Yeah, that sounds like what people said about project 2025, i dont believe the ‘he doesnt mean it’ crowd.
Genuine question: if israel wants to expand their territory, and it seems clear that they do, why would they want to give gaza to christian americans? Isnt total control their aim? Why would they let america take territory they see as their owm.
I think we would agree that for profit prisons are an absolute atrocity. I harbour a lot of hate for certain types of criminals, but for profit prison is downright evil and corrupt right off the bat. Protecting the public must include rehabilitation or you’re just releasing monsters. I would separate violent and non violent, i would also throw every intervention at the problem and see what works, employ the success stories, end poverty fist and foremost. In my opininion, incarceration is necessary mostly because society has failed, in some caes it is however, unavoidable.
I appreciate your perspective and experience on the subject. Thank you.
Does imagining everyone that is locked behind bars as a violent rapist make you feel safe?
No, the vast majority never go to prison. I gave it as an example, i dont think you are pro rape. It’s just an example of incarcarating people in order to protect society. I believe that protecting people is the primary goal of incarceration. Better rehabilitation would obviously help this endeavour. I disagree completely with the idea of no incarceration as this would allow violence to flourish with no protection for those under threat.
Lets discuss freeing violent rapists.
No.
I read that book and it felt like satire, but apparently this extreme belief in gender differences is the norm and im a freak.
Im ok with that, but i do raise it to make the point that some of us just dont see your sex/gender as particularly important information and anyone changing their gender is a massive threat to the status quo beleif that such things are not only natural and right but the basis for who you are and how to interact with you.
I remember people calling for sex/gender to be declared as part of your reddit profile. This is why, they cant interact with people as humans, they need a sex/gender to tell them how. It’s very disturbing to me.
I tried to read the wheel of time once and what i learned is that gender is the ultimate defining factor in some peoples lives. It is their whole defining principle in interacting with others. Everything about you is a direct consequence of your sex. Mess with sex/gender and you destroy their entire way of interacting with humans. Hunans dont exist for them, only men and women. The sexes are actually incapable of communication or cooperation of any kind. Effectively different species. This makes trans people a literal impossibility. A leopard cannot become an attack helicopter. A trans person threatens their world view in a fundamental way.
These people also want control of everything, probably due to inability to cope with anything they don’t understand, which is a lot. I don’t understand being trans, but i undetstand the right to health and happiness and i wish it for you.
Cognitive dissonance is the mental discomfort people experience when holding conflicting cognitions. It is a signal that our thinking doesn’t make sense and we need to change something to make that feeling go away. It is not hypocrisy or having contradictory thoughts. It’s a feeling we all experience. IMO exploring our cognitive dissonance is a useful way to better critical thinking. The people you are talking about are probably not experiencing cognitive dissonance as they have long since rationlised it away.
It may have more to do with Greenland seeking independence: https://www.reuters.com/world/greenlands-leader-steps-up-push-independence-denmark-2025-01-03/
Most people want to see themselves as having overcome some sort of adversity to earn whatever they have in life, and that creates a bias to see one’s own life as unlucky and miserable. I definitely went through a phase of seeing my life this way as a kid.
This is your own bias speaking, you assume most people are just like you and that your own personal experience is universal.
Thank you for explaining it to me.
