As EU citizen, I don’t think that’s a good deal for us, as we are importing food that do not match our environmental criterias. It’s anti-concurrential for inside food producers that have to conform these environmental laws. It would have been good if the deal was to import things that were produced respecting our laws (no offense).
It’s not just a yes or no. Theorically, they have to do many things about corruption, economic stability. They are not supposed to be at war to apply and not to have unstable countries beside. Accepting Ukraine now, would be against all the neighbors countries that have been struggling to enter. EU have to help them getting out of this war (preferably by pushing Russia out entirely), then make peace, then help rebuilding so they are conform to enter. I really hope we manage to make them get there! But it’s long for a reason: stability. The quickest part would be to accept them as candidate, but it needs peace first.

I have another more pragmatic problem : I don’t know any way to use Whatsapp or Signal without an external android phone linked to it. I don’t have the incentive to spend my time improving support if I know I could not use it in everyday life.
EDIT : Thus said, I’ve just read the situation improved with Flare (client for Signal) and Whatsapp Web, which both doesn’t require an active phone connection. Only at registration (which is still a problem).

Oh I’d love to dive into improving device support, but it is somehow quite frightening to me (and I’m otherwise an experienced dev).
I don’t open everything at startup neither, and to be honest, I almost never use the dock neither. WIN + write the first letters is more efficient. That’s why I love Gnome, you can use shortcuts for everything. It is clean, still extremely powerful. I used i3/sway for long, and then realized I could do everything the same in a much better polished desktop environment :) There’s also extensions like “search light” if you don’t want to have the menu full screen when searching (I used to use that, but I don’t need it anymore).
I had the same issues as you at first. The answer is that you don’t use the dock mode when working. Only at startup to organize what you want to do. Even when launching apps, Firefox is docked at first place so WIN + 1 launch it.
Then, it’s mostly Alt + Tab / Alt + ² and spread your work on workspaces (use Ctrl + Alt + Left / Right, Alt + Shift + L/R, Win + Shift + L/R). Your brain will be used to it in no time :) And when you’re tired and just want to use the mouse and relax, you can still do! Also, I disable animations and set night light the whole day to reduce the eye strain!
Using Gnome needs that you try a different workflow. Use the Windows way if you’re afraid (by adding a panel and a menu), but once you’ve settled, try to understand why it was designed that way and how to use it properly. For the first months, I was using a dock / panel, but since years I use only caffeine (to keep the screen awake when I need) and workspace indicator (because Debian is still at Gnome 43 and quick workspace switch was introduced in Gnome 45). Gnome is by FAR the desktop where I’m the most productive and I’ve tried them all over the years.

For links, I use Pocket (you can use Wallabag, but I find the interface not efficient at all). For files, you can sync a folder with syncthing (but you only switch it on when you want a quick sync, otherwise keep it off for battery). If you just want to put some file on your phone, install FTP server (free) from F-droid and switch it on when you need it (there’s even an optional switch on quick actions). Use Filezilla or any file browser (if on Linux) to exchange your files. Remember to switch the server off once finished, because FTP is not a secure protocol.
I don’t know much about food standards laws. A bit of french ones, but not international. Most of it is assumed based on what I heard from news and agricultors back when the treaty was validated! So, what you basically say is that Canada also have high standards, and that’s a good news. No GMO? Some organic food (no pesticids)?
