In the same vein, homeopaths, and psychics that take advantage of vulnerable people (aka all of them)
I miss James Randi…
I guess I’m not selfhosting at all, I use a power grid that I don’t control.

Cons: you don’t know what you’re missing
Pros: you don’t know what you’re not missing

The sentiment might be right, but I’m guessing you’re not on receiving end of the bombs
I’m using Nick Fedor’s version that he’s still maintaining.

Losers. I am Banksy.

If you’re self hosting you could even use https://github.com/qdm12/ddns-updater and skip a third-party service (if your registrar accepts dynamic entries)

Even a scumbag corrupt clock is right twice a day.

My setup is a bit different, but maybe you can reuse part of it. Instead of using swarm for HA, I’m using proxmox. The LXCs have a failover to other machine (if they go down), and a static IP address, so if the http proxy machine goes down, it boots back up in another machine, with the same IP (and thus a working port forward).
This does mean that I have to keep the configuration in sync between different machines so my RPO is never too big, but for something like NPM where the config rarely changes, this isn’t much of an issue.

I mean, I know, but wouldn’t those also increase the cost?

You drink the rainwater?

If you read the news from Portugal, the response was pretty atrocious.

Don’t put fucking fascism in the same sentence as soccer football. Fuck fascism and fuck FIFA. Football though, is the best.

I have 6 hard drives that have been running constantly from between 5 for the oldest and 2 years for the newest. Zero failures so far. They obviously have a lifespan to them, as with everything, but it’s not like they’ll fail left and right.
And I’ve moved out of so many cloud services (and streaming services) to in house, that over time, the privacy and savings of it are sort of worth it.

The downloading computer can be lower powered, and can do a bunch of different things! Home automation, ad blocking, file storage, so many options!

frfr, Russia isn’t committing genocide. (Not defending Russia, if it’s not clear)

Seatbelt. Condom. Vaccines. Voting. Living outside the US and other dangerous third world countries. Flossing.
I can’t buy a gun in my country, lack of freedom I guess.
I spend a lot more money on donations to the open source stuff I’m running, but they are not strictly speaking “subscriptions”. Self hosting for me isn’t about cost, it’s about data ownership.
