If no media outlet talks about it, if the event isn’t advertised, if no famous star play at the event and if no public figure award the cup, the coverage and popularity of the event goes down. If you browse the news you will see nothing about the epstein files or the genocide in gaza but trump handling the world cup. Halftime shows have never been a thing in soccer and the president of a country is not supposed to deliver the cup. This already planned event was milked as much as possible to work as a distraction for all the shit that is currently happening in the world and it worked incredibly good.

That’s probably because all the serious posts are hard to find because they don’t get upvoted as much as memes.

Some meme are good yes, a frontpage filled with these to the point where more serious content get shadowed is not good, it’s actually really bad.

It would be nice to have these articles on the lemmy all frontpage and not memes about stupid shit.

There’s a lot of anti-AI propaganda coming from the same AI corporations and governments trying to push for regulations that will grant them a monopoly on this tech and limit the development and usage for people. Many brought up multiple reasons why they dislike AI, the same arguments could be used for other technologies and services but personally i’ve never seen anyone here on lemmy picking a fight against military data centers or videogames industry for causing pollution.

The most upvoted comments hint at big techs being a problem but seem to fail to acknowledge that issues caused by “AI” are mostly caused by the corporations and evil characters behind these.
