Russia tried to run the same playbook in Ukraine that they did in Georgia.

What does the ethnicity of the inhabitants of the eastern provinces have to do with national borders? Does Mexico have claims to Texas and California? Should the US conquer Canada because of the 10’s of thousands of US natives living there?

If Ukraine was abusing it’s population it should be censored, sanctioned, it’s leaders prosecuted for crimes against international law, but invasion is worse than anything short of genocide. The people of Donesk and Luhansk have had their many of their communities completely destroyed. They are not better off because of the war.

You have this backwards. The war is existential for Ukrainians. Russians decided to annex Crimea, and then luhansk and Donesk. When Kiev caught for it’s own territory, the Russians went for the capitol and attempted to overthrow the whole country.

Half a million Russian families had to get used to it already.

It’s also possible they will stop the zapp Brannigan tactics and dig in to wait for the west to lose interest.

He took way longer to do it, but that’s a good summary. He left office because the prez could only serve two terms but had congress transfer most of the power to the prime ministership and he got that job, so they had a puppet president for 4 years. Then they said he just can’t serve more than 2 terms consecutively so they restored the power of the presidency and he returned to office and they modified the constitution to remove the two term limit and here we are.

The current head of the national intelligence service is a Russian Asset. She’s probably feeding Putin approved information to Trump, along with Putin himself in their private phone calls.

There are some things you can’t take back. I have a grandmother in law that skipped my wife and I’s wedding and we have not spoken to her since.

I don’t want right wing apologia in my life. I do not enjoy biting my tongue to avoid arguments. I understand why you wouldn’t either. But skipping a wedding is serious and maybe permanent damage to your relationship. If it will free you and leave you better off, don’t go. If you will regret it, probably go and do the best you can.

That’s about what I thought. Ukraine has gotten 40 trucks here, 12 tanks there. Better than the old Soviet stuff Russia is using, but not enough to decisively turn the tables.

Honestly the pace of Russian advancement has been slowing down which is understandable because their losses are not sustainable. Their only hope for true victory is if Ukrainian losses are even less sustainable.

This is possible, especially if Germany and the US, the 2 wealthiest partners, cut off or scale back aid. But at the moment Ukraine seems slightly ahead of the attrition game and the US just INCREASED sanctions.
