After 0.5.20 ruined my entire library, i’m very reluctant to upgrade to 0.5.21 until others have verified it actually works.
Luckily i was able to get it working in lutris, but now i’m curious to get it working in Heroic. Thanks for the tips, i’ll try it out. If we can figure this stuff out now, we can help others who are bound to run into the same problem. I just wish you could find lemmy posts on search engines like reddit posts, but they are all hidden it seems.
I did notice that one of the games i loaded took about 30 seconds to load when i first tried to launch it. I tried it again later that evening and it launched much faster. Think Lutris has to maybe reconfigure somethings now since they updated the main runners that is uses.
I came across this issue many times today while researching my issue. Seems both apps had a major update in the last week and screwed up a lot of our games. But i do appreciate them working on this open source software, just sucks when it breaks like this.
I tried to use Heroic, but my copy of SimCity isn’t a GOG game, so it wouldn’t launch correctly. Heoric seems to have a much easier GUI though for installing games compared to Lutris, so no wonder so many people are switching over.
Alright after about 2 hours of reinstalling and trying different options i finally got Sim city 4 and 3000 unlimited to work. But i lost all my save data, so thanks Lutris for completely changing all the wine settings and making proton take over everything.
98% of my games are 32 bit, so the new version didn’t like them. I had to manually change everything and try several different runners to get these to actually work. Some are on System 11, some are on wine ge-8-26-x86_64, and some are on GE-Proton to get them to launch again, But i finally have all 19 games working again. What a pain.
I turned off automatic updates on lutris as a result.

2026 and on might be a way for repair to come back strong, but at the same time, we can’t repair without parts, so it’s a double edged sword. SSD’s only have a 5-10 year life span, so we are ALL screwed and i’m really hoping my new NVME SSD’s last a decade.

It has the best options i feel without going to overboard like they did in 3. Also with the triple pack, you get so many different parks to play and all the six flags parks, i always come back to it over the other ones.
I think a lot of the times it’s just knowing the process, and there isn’t much documentation out there for it. I find i have to try many different graphics settings in the runners tab and use winetricks to get games to display correctly on my system. It may be worth trying again. Or get the NoCD patch from Gamecopyworld for Axis and Allies that you can put into the folder that may fix your issues.
I have all my emulators on my consoles, so i didn’t need anything for PC. I have like 4 ways to play SNES games on 4 different consoles. But Retroarch is an amazing emulator i use on Xbox 360.
It’s been GREAT! All my torrenting related stuff works better than it did on windows 10. I am slowing loading old 2000’s windows PC games on my Mint installation and so far it’s been working well.
My computers are MUCH faster on linux and updates take 20 seconds instead of 15 minutes.
Oh well, nothing we could have done anyway. Protests, strikes, violence, none of it changes the trajectory of this country into the shitter.
