After 10 years I left reddit. One of the subs I used to visit frequently is called somethingiswrong2024 which deals with the anomalies that occurred in the 2024 election, which was followed up with trump thanking elmo for his help with the voting computers. Over 3100 counties in the USA…not 1 flipped red to blue. That’s never happened. So one of the new mods is a huge Kamala fan. Anything in that sub critical of Kamala is a no go. Question why she disappeared…question why she didn’t ask for even one recount…point out she’s been on a book tour while the country has been burning…you will get the ban hammer. Look through any post featuring Kamala and scroll through the comments…so so many deletions. Best part is the mod doesn’t even live in the US. The fact that people like that are making it impossible to even question Dem leadership is unreal. My home state sub got taken over by a white supremacist. Enough is enough. I know that reddit is built on the model of free labor but when people start doing something egregious that is brazenly awful and the company just nods in approval it’s too much. /rant over

Sorry to say, but we’ve got subs like that here too.

Agreed, but there is a difference. Multiple instances give the ability to host multiple “subs” of the same name in different places. In theory, over time people will migrate to the version that is most welcoming & befitting its purpose.

That’s true, but on reddit you could make a mostly similar name, that is then hosted on the same server.
I left reddit about 8 years ago, 5 years before I joined here. So it’s not that I have any need to defend reddit, I just don’t see the big difference in this particular regard.
In every other respect however, Lemmy is a far more free platform.
