The Wall Street Journal had reported that Ukraine had given in to pressure from the White House to stop bombing Russian energy infrastructure.

Ukrainian officials, however, told the Kyiv Independent newspaper that they never agreed to a demand from Jared Kushner, the US president’s son-in-law, to pause refinery strikes for 30 days. The raids on Russia restarted on Friday, Kremlin officials said, complaining that Kyiv was now “simply ignoring” US wishes.

Trump has blamed the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, for the rise in global fuel prices, and last month lifted US sanctions on Russian diesel.

Terrible journalist slop. Putting the blatant lies in the article, not refuting it with the facts that the fuel price increase is a direct consequence from the usa starting a war with Iran.

He basically said stop hitting russian refineries and in return we stop giving you interceptors regardless. It’s the retarded version of carrot and a stick but without the carrot

I wish we in Europe could get our shit together and support Ukraine properly so they don’t have to rely on the senile clown anymore.

It’s kinda being done but the problem is that Europe’s weapon production levels were lower than America’s at the start of this and I think they still are.

Similarly America had far deeper stockpiles to begin with (though as the whole Patriot situation shows, maybe not by all that much in the stuff that matters - they sure have lots of conventional bombs to give Israel to bomb Gaza but their Patriot missile stocks turned out not to be enough to face Iran)

Finally, with things sold by America it’s almost always a shavers and razor blades situation - they sell you the shavers cheap and after that you’re stuck having to buy their expensive razor blades. That’s the problem Ukraine is having with Patriot - they got the systems early on and now are stuck having to buy the missiles from America and they ain’t selling them anywhere near enough for their needs.

(That said, I don’t even know if Europe has a homegrown air-defense system capable of intercepting balistic missiles).

Nothing new here I don’t think. Ukraine has always said they are open to an energy ceasefire. If the orange fuckwit wants it to happen he’ll have to get Putin’s dick out of his mouth for long enough to beg him to agree to it.

Ukraine is doing math here. If they stop, trump may be seen as peace maker and wins votes. Trump is a putin ally basically at this point. If they go on they weaken their enemy AND may shift elections to a more moderate candidate in the US by elevated gas prices.

Of course this could go tits up if they lose international support. Destruction of northstream might have helped anti ukraine parties rise in germany. But regarding infrastructure inside russia i think they can only win.

Lol at the idea of Germany giving up on Ukraine, they will deserve the Russian invasion at that point if they do

Unfortunately Germans tend to get very dense when it gets to some political stuff. 🌝

Some simply don’t get what is so controversial about building Nordstream in the first place and how it undermines their independence (and I don’t just mean energy independence).

They have Gerhard Schröder as a clearest example of someone given a share in Russian gas sales, but Nordstream is just “two countries doing business, is buying energy from France also undermining our independence?”.

Fuck Trump. Honestly, best advice is to do the opposite of what Trump says.

Heck, if Trump said the sky was blue, I’d have to double check it actually was.

Trump will go into history as the president who sat on his hands while he had the chance to permanently neuter a decades old ideological enemy.

Among other pants-on-head moronic moronic bullshit of course.

The problems with the US go deeper than just their leadership. The country flings its arms open wide and gleefully embraces fascism every 4 or 8 years and this is getting even worse as technofascist corporations gain more and more control over ever branch of US government.

No country should ever trust the US again until it undergoes some serious internal changes.

unfortunately there is limited and diminishing confidence that americans will do the right thing. Winston Churchill once said that americans will always do the right thing … after they’ve tried everything else. I’m not sure the world can survive waiting while america tries everything else. We’ll be well into WWIII .
