Tool definitely takes the edge off. If it’s been a rough day… Massage chair and vibing to tool, all of their songs. It doesn’t suddenly bring a smile to my face but it definitely smooths the rough edges, if that makes sense.

What Tool album should I listen to today? I only remember trying and failing to get into them like 15 years ago when I was a nerd. You got a good entry point? It doesn’t necessarily need to be “easy”.

I’d say lateralus or Ænima are probably the easiest to get into as they have the most hits. So you’d be more familiar with it. But fear inoculum is good for the vibes, and smooth listening.

Actually, I’m a musicologist from Leipzig (Germany) the town “Where Music Was Invented”, and I’ve been studying this hypothesis for the last 45 years. Alas, I could neither proof it right nor wrong, so that’s 45 years of effort down the drain, I didn’t get tenure as a result, and I now have to fill the regale at Aldi to make ends meet. It’s quite fucking frustrating. As you can well imagine, I hardly listen to music these days, so I can’t provide you with an answer, sorry.

If it was neither right or wrong, does it mean there are subcategories or other factors that are affecting it?

I know it’s kinda basic but either the Gurren Lagaan music or just a rewatch of the show/movie.

Never fails to shake me out of a stupor and remind me that no matter the obstacles life throws at you, there’s always a way forward, even if it might not be the way forward you initially wanted.

Revolutionary optimism before I knew what it was, haha.

Also that sometimes things can get so bad you gotta be a tiny bit illogical to stay sane. 😅

IDK if it counts as instrumental, but I swear this shit hipnotizes me and takes me to a dark cave which is warm and peaceful at the same time. It’s Aphex Twin’s “Stone in focus”.

I’ve learned to it, and kudos for having the balls to cover such piece, but come on. Nothing sounds like “Stone in focus”. Close you eyes and play it, it’s like a 10 minute vacation.

Don’t get me wrong, the original is great. The cover was the version I stumbled upon first though and I find it more relaxing, especially when I am in pain.

I like the synthwave playlists on streaming services. Keeps me in the zone while reading scifi and lifts my mood when I’m not reading

It’s more than a little on the nose, but Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollility by Holst, especially this abridged arrangement, is something I reach for at the end of a rough day. Usually stops me from going to bed mad, or in a thought spiral.

That it’s a relic of the flash mob fad from however many years ago doesn’t hurt, either. A spoonful of ironic nostalgia helps the medicine go down.

I could put together a list of instrumental house music that I find uplifting, but not sure if that’s the sort of thing you want?

Hello again - ok, here we go, made you a 50-track playlist of almost entirely instrumental stuff that I like and which make me smile when they come on. There may be the odd small bit of voice or whatever, but not full lyrics.

I started off doing just house, but ended up with a range of stuff, some techno, acid, etc. Hopefully there’s something you enjoy.

The tracks were randomised before I made the playlist, so they may hang well together or not :-)
