Voters to be asked whether province should remain part of Canada or hold a second, binding independence vote

Albertans are going to the polls to decide their place in Canada, in a referendum that has exposed deep divisions within the province, not least in the separatist movement itself.

On Monday, voters will respond to the question of whether Alberta should remain in Canada, or hold a second, binding independence referendum.

A minority have long argued that separation is the only way to address their belief that Alberta is short-changed by its financial relationship with Ottawa, and prevented from fully exploiting the province’s vast fossil fuel reserves.

This is Danielle Smith, the leader of Alberta

She said many Albertans love the US and feel a special connection to the State of Texas. She once called Alberta the “Texas of Canada”

Her government website says “We are strong partners, we are trusted neighbors”

Seriously? What do you actually love about Texas ?

The abortion ban ? The death penalty ? The lack of paid maternity leave ? The lack of law requiring employers to provide vacation? School shootings ? Drug prices ?

Watching some Canadians cosplay as conservative americans is just pathetic, frankly.

This woman is not for Canada, she’s not for Texas, she’s not even for Alberta or its people. She’s for herself and that materialises in one way, that’s the oil industry. That is her long term plan, mark my words, when finished with her political career she will have a lucrative position with big oil and they’ll reward her with big bonuses. It’s that simple.
