Ukrainians would rather not be ruled by the Kremlin, be it Soviet or Russian nationalist.

As you know, Russia’s invasion made/makes NATO and EU look better to other countries besides Ukraine.

You are aware Ukraine only exists as a sovereign country because of the USSR right? Ukraine was never an independent nation before the USSR. The USSR gave many of the peoples and nations of the old Russian empire their own republics. It was a big part of the Soviet project. They had a congress that was democratically elected, but their version of a “senate” was actually a “nation and people’s” congress, where 2 representatives of each nation, ethnicity or people would gather and have the power to veto laws etc. like a senate does.

        FWIW,

        wp:Ukrainian People’s Republic

The Ukrainian People’s Republic (UPR)[d][e] was a short-lived state in Eastern Europe. Prior to its proclamation, the Central Council of Ukraine was elected in March 1917 as a result of the February Revolution, and in June declared Ukrainian autonomy within Russia, which was later recognized by the Russian Provisional Government. Following the October Revolution, the Central Council of Ukraine denounced the Bolshevik seizure of power and proclaimed the establishment of the Ukrainian People’s Republic in the approximate territory Russian governorates of Kiev, Volhynia, Kharkov, Kherson, Yekaterinoslav, Poltava, Chernigov and Podolia. The republic formally declared its independence from Russia on 22 January 1918.

A lot of stuff happened that year.

The October Revolution came after the February one.
