not an excuse but it’s always been like this. the go to has always been “blame the immigrants” always. by design. remember the 2008 collapse? I do. right after it was “blame the poors and the immigrants”. And they weren’t taking anyones jobs, it was like you said employers exploiting them. Ship in immigrants on work visas and then proceed to pay them peanuts. dangle said visas over their heads so they won’t quit, won’t unionize, won’t dare question the practices of their employers. make them work longer hours for less pay. and when things go south, as they always do, present them as the scape goat.
We even have it here in Canada as an example. The government bent to the whims of Canadian corporations who demanded cheap labour from overseas and our government said “yes sir, whatever you say” and then what happened? anger and racism towards people from India rose significantly. Politicians then utilized this anger and hate for their own personal gain. Corporations used it as an excuse “well we need to bring these people here because no one wants to work at Tim Hortons, no one wants to work anywhere anymore.” which isn’t true. They could easily obtain a workforce. Teens here can’t find jobs. But Tim Hortons doesn’t want to hire teenagers because they can’t work them 60 hours a week and have to pay them a fair wage.
