Iran’s joint military command warned Thursday that all oil tankers moving through the Strait of Hormuz must use its approved routes or face a “forceful response,” ratcheting up tensions again over a waterway crucial for international energy supplies.
The strait, the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf, has emerged as one of the top issues in negotiations seeking a permanent end to the Iran war. The statement from the Khatam al-Anbiya military command, reported by Iranian state television, comes after both U.S. and Iranian diplomats met with mediators Wednesday in Qatar.
It wasn’t clear what sparked the threat from Iran. However, the U.S. military’s Central Command had put out a statement about a meeting with officials from Mideast nations in Bahrain that said “leaders underscored their shared commitment to the free flow of commerce through” the strait.
US: “Oil tankers! Go this way instead! No, you don’t have a choice!”
If they really want to piss off Trump they should rename it to the Trans of Hormuz.
Iran is right. The usa want to create an alternate route so it can go back to full scale war again
Donalds golf trip is over so it’s back to his 9 to 5 I guess.
The agreement said Iran can control the routes, and after 60 days can charge tolls.
US, who agreed to the tolls, is now saying Iran can’t ever do tolls and can’t set the routes.
So Iran is insisting that the route part is followed, to avoid the precedent that the agreement on tolls can also just be tossed out.
If it was possible to have a route that was immune to the war, that’s what they would have fucking been doing this whole time.
Which should be obvious
I think that part only exists in your dream version of the deal, not the actual one
Both the U.S. and Iran are in the wrong; the U.S. and Israel should not have attacked Iran, but Iran doesn’t have the right to unilaterally impose a fee on an international straight in response.
but Iran doesn’t have the right to unilaterally impose a fee on an international straight in response.
That’s not what the Mou says…
And that’s pretty much the only reason Iran agreed to it.
Imagine if I walked up and kicked your dog off a bridge. Then said it’s fine because now you own the bridge. Then as soon as I turn around I say “that dumb fuck thinks he owns the bridge lol”.
Now switch dog for “supreme religious and political leader” and “kicked off a bridge” for “fucking killed”.
If they can’t do tolls, the war’s back on.
There was nothing in the agreement that said Iran can charge tolls, just that they can’t during the 60 days.
