Jellyfin is finally moving to the new version scheme. With [major].[minor] having breaking changes between major versions and commitment to non breaking changes for minor bumps.

This release looks to be mostly house keeping, bug fixes, few minor features, and breaking changes being the legacy api key auth removal, best I can tell it’s just the name of the key is changed from api_key to ApiKey.

    Awesome!

Always great to see updates on this and hopefully hopefully finally it gets to the point where it can compete with Netflix for my wife… I have a nice library but she refuses to use jellyfin (on Google TV device) because well, too many bugs, too many broken features still. Soon though!

I for one would love to finally see that scrubbing with thumbnail images work, like Netflix does. Supposedly it’s been there for years now but it never once worked for me

Also improvement in subtitles would be nice, it’s still a headache to get subtitles to work well, even though it’s a lot better than before

The UI (at least on Google TV) really should be improved as well, it is almost impossible to nicely look for movies with larger libraries. I want to watch a comedi movie, let’s see what I have? Go to movies, which get this weird in between screen where I have to select by genre, name, and a few other options. Okay, select genre. Then I get rows for each genre and each row has tiny icons for each of the hundreds of movies all on one row, sorted alphabetically… so I scroll, and scroll and scroll and… well, scroll some more and 20 seconds later, I’m at “B”

I’d hope to be able to say something like "show me Comedy movies, and I have a full screen grid of all Comedy movies where I can oder by name, year, etc… maybe sub filtering? And I’d like much MUCH bigger icons

Anyways, not trying to complain, just hoping I can one day actually give my wife the remote and that she watches whatever she wants to watch. The current UI is ready for power users like me, but not the average user yet

I created a folder on my C drive with my wife’s name. All of the stuff I download for her goes right in there. Then when she launches Jellyfin on Roku, her content is right there.

      Edit: autocorrect fuckery :(

Hmm… not sure about a specific client… but maybe you could create a child profile and then make sure all your media has the correct parental ratings? Then you can limit the profile to a certain rating.

Not sure what specifically about YouTube Kids you want.

I don’t know what YouTube kids looks like, but the Roku client is pretty simplified.

However, instead of relying on accurate ratings like the other poster said, I would create libraries for the kids shows/movies and only allow their profile to see those.
