That’s kind of going against the point of being a journalist. If a journalist opposes what a country is doing, the thing they can do about it is to go to that country and report on what’s happening.

Same l wouldn’t visit as a conservative journalist?

Meaning countries that have a problem with the concept of journalism and free press.

The “leftist” in the question really doesn’t make a difference.

Probably all the dark red ones on the RSF index, and for me personally also all of the dark orange ones (yeah, I guess I am a coward… but there are reasons l am not a journalist…):

As a leftist journalist you wouldn’t go to Venezuela, Laos, Vietnam, China or Cuba?

          Also:

            No, quite definetly not.
At least not in the role of a journalist.
Private vacation would be ok for most.

If I were a journalist, I’d hope to go anywhere there’s an important story to tell and to do it with legal and my employer’s protection. No country should be a no-go zone for journalists.

    For why?

Fear of prosecution? Persecution? Simple moral objection? It feels wrong to avoid going somewhere strictly because you disagree with state policy or even general public opinion… Or maybe you mean “visit” for leisure? Even then, I think there’s some value in experiencing things directly.

    I don’t know.
