U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that his Russian counterpart “kept his word” by not launching mass missile and drone strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for a week has been met with bewilderment and dismay in Kyiv.

“I believe this is either a mockery of our misfortune, a lack of understanding of the situation, or wishful thinking,” Volodymyr Ariev, a lawmaker from the opposition European Solidarity party, told the Kyiv Independent.

The confusing saga of a supposed truce on striking energy infrastructure began when Trump surprisingly announced on Jan. 29 that Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed not to strike Ukrainian cities for a week.

“(The pause) was for Sunday to Sunday,” Trump said the same day. “It opened up and (Putin) hit them hard… He kept his word on that. One week is a lot — we will take anything.”

. . .

In Ukraine, a week without a mass Russian missile and drone strike is not “a lot.” In fact, it has been a regular occurrence since the Kremlin started bombing energy infrastructure way back in October 2022, and simply reflects the amount of time it takes for Russia to prepare such attacks.

Kyiv groans a collective ‘WTF?’ to Trump

    You and us both, Kyiv.

I’m starting to feel collectively ashamed for “The West” that this war still isn’t over. Please hold tight, I’m sure we’ll get there!

Look, I know how it seems. Yes, he’s about as sharp as a wet bowling ball. And sure, he showed obvious signs of sundowning on a steadily increasing basis. But please, please don’t forget that deep down, he also a completely heartless and evil man.

It’s even worse. His supporters are more detached from reality than him.

He’s a liar gone senile. His followers have no such excuse. They need to make active effort to dissociate from reality in order to remain followers. Even if you were just evil and liked his ideas, you should know he’s not the right person to lead.

I’ve just finished reading a book on the psychology of authoritarian followers. Turns out they actually find it really easy to compartmentalize and forget all the illogic of their beliefs. They don’t look inward, and they don’t connect the dots between beliefs and actions very accurately. They just follow the leader and cheer when that means hurting someone.

I mean the constant lying, petty and hateful behavior alone should be enough to get the guy impeached. Let alone the child raping and abuse of the office of president of the united states to enrich himself, his family and his inner circle.

The whole Republican party, and a substantial part of the democratic party consists of spineless, weak traitors. Their names will go down in history as such. Now let’s steer towards consequences so that future politicians know that their job is to represent and not to enrich. It should be an honor to serve the many citizens you represent, it should be punished if you knowingly fail.
