A St Petersburg court has sentenced a 19-year-old woman to nearly three years in a penal colony after she was accused of repeatedly “discrediting” the Russian army, including by gluing a quotation on a statue of a Ukrainian poet.

Darya Kozyreva was sentenced to two years and eight months, the Joint Press Service of Courts in St. Petersburg said in statement Friday.

Kozyreva was arrested on February 24, 2024, after she glued a verse by Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko onto his monument in St Petersburg, according to OVD-Info, an independent Russian human rights group.

Tankie here: nothing to defend, there is currently no tankie in the comments defending anything. As any capitalist country does regarding its geopolitical interests, Russia will enjail anti-war protestors and/or activists, and I condemn this. The same happens in Britain today, with activists from pro-Palestinian groups doing a literal hunger strike in jail with no coverage from mass western media.

Now, as a reply: why haven’t I seen posts over in .world about the five Russian communists given 15ish years of jail each for being communists? Why is it western mass media doesn’t care about communist activists but does only care about pro-Ukraine activists, and why is this reflected on a supposedly free Fediverse instance?

Regarding your reply, a wild story, but I’m not sure it was done because they are communists, rather because they need to jail someone to get a yearly bonus, and these guys looked like they could do
