German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt thinks that schoolchildren should be better prepared for war and disasters. He calls it a sensible precaution; others see scaremongering.

Crises, disasters and war have long been covered in German schools, at least on an abstract, academic level.

Now, German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt of the conservative Christian Social Union (CSU) wants training for such scenarios in schools. That includes how to use a fire extinguisher, but also how to respond if a fellow student is injured and how to perform CPR.

“My suggestion is that, once every school year, an extended lesson with older pupils is held that covers various possible threat scenarios and how to prepare for them,” he told the Handelsblatt newspaper. How to prepare for crises should be a part of everyday school life, he said.

    This is what we are talking about, not shooting weapons or drone training. Germans in general are not prepared for anything crisis related, although we have regular floods and other catastrophes. Citizens of other countries north and east from Germany are way better prepared than us.

    I am German and have performed CPR and used a fire extinguisher before. I think this makes sense even if Dobrindt, who decided this, is a POS

    Interesting comma usage, I personally never noticed that learning about war was a disaster for the curriculum.
