Summary
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to resign within days, reports suggest.
After nine years in office, Trudeau faces mounting pressure following Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland’s recent resignation over disagreements about handling proposed U.S. tariffs, which could harm Canada’s economy.
Trudeau’s Liberal Party is trailing in polls, and his resignation could trigger a leadership void ahead of an election required by late October.
While the exact timing of his departure remains unclear, sources anticipate an announcement before Wednesday’s emergency meeting of Liberal legislators. Trudeau’s office has not commented.
The issue for the libs is that, “There is no one else.”
Singh wasted the perfect opportunity to wield great power as the de facto PM during this period. That being said, he’s the only party leader who actually delivered on his promises: drug and dental programs.
It’ll never happen, but if Tom Mulcair could be parachuted in as Liberal leader, this upcoming election could be interesting, but Canada is destined to roll its eyes through a 5 year PP majority…
I’m not canadian. My thoughts :
“isn’t he dead?” search “oh great, he isn’t. I must have thought about Jack Layton, RIP”
I don’t think parlimentary systems work that way. Here’s hoping the NDP/Liberals can ensure that the lunatics in the new flavour of conservatives don’t get in.
Mulcair would have to run for leadership of the Liberal party - that was my intended use of ‘parachute’.
