Hello Lemmy / FOSS / Hardware community!
I’m looking to buy a monitor arm. Any recommendations? Good brands?

  • I want it to have a spring
  • I’m prioritizing quality and durability

Context:
I have a monitor arm already and I love the concept. However, it’s a 50 EUR (~=60 USD) “static” monitor arm and I want to upgrade this part. I know some monitor stands / monitor arms allow easy on-the-go adjustments of the height and angle. Which monitor arm to buy to have this feature? Recommendations? “Negative” recommendations (e.g. what not to buy)?

I have a single 6kg monitor + a notebook that can be left on it’s static arm on the side.

I appreciate any feedback on this
Thanks!

Anything by Ergotron is excellent. They are very expensive but the magic is that you can buy parts after the fact, like an extra arm or extra swing arm section later as your needs change. You can clamp them or drill through your desk if you prefer, and the clamp can be split in two for easy installation. No regrets.

For example I got a tall LX pole, initially bought for an Ultrawide (check the weight restrictions!) with two arms, then later got a third arm and an extension for the existing arm when my work configuration changed, then a laptop support plate.

For a while, the AmazonBasics monitor arm was a rebadged ergotron LX for like, $90; not sure if they still are though

      Edit: they are not. Shame.
