hosting anything piracy-related on Github
Many GOATed piracy resources have always been hosted on Github. Massgrave and abbodi1406’s Windows and Office activators, Goldberg’s SteamEmu, and many of the public wikis that accept edits through pull requests.
That they’ve been lucky so far doesn’t mean it makes sense to keep pushing it. There’s literally 123456DIY better options.
An advantage of github is that its social network type features give you ways to make more educated guesses about whether a project is legitimate vs a malware trap. It’s great that it is not difficult to find alternative hosting for git repos to evade Microsoft’s censorship, but I don’t think there exists an ideal alternative solution for trust infrastructure, which is extra important for anything piracy related.
It would be very interesting if there was a list of all those repos somewhere.
