For non-German readers: AMD will move RDNA 2 and RDNA 1 into Legacy mode starting with AMD Software Adrenalin Edition 25.10.2. Therefor these devices will only receive updates for security or other critical issues. But no new Features (e.g. FSR 4) will be added.

I think this a very customer unfriendly decision. Especially cosnidering the use of Ryzen Z2 GO and Ryzen Z2 A in the Handheld Market used (for example) in:

  • Lenovo Legion Go S
  • ROG Ally X

Does anybody know if it will be the same on Linux (e.g. SteamOS)? I did not find any information regarding support in the Linux Kernel Driver. But I think the situation might be the same?

You could have linked any of the english articles that clearly say it is only Windows that is not getting any new features in the driver updates. Linux is unaffected by AMD’s Windows driver decisions.

I am not familiar with english speaking (and reliable) gaming news Sites. Do you have a link to a trustworthy source to place here?

Linux kernel still gets patches for AMD’s GCN architecture from 2012. Mesa sometimes has game-specific fixes that would affect older architectures as well.

I wouldn’t be worried on Linux, especially not for RDNA 2, as the Steam Deck’s APU is RDNA 2 based and Valve usually provides game-specific fixes for high-profile games should they be required. Architecture-specific “Game ready” drivers never really were a thing on Linux anyway.
